KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 13 (Bernama) -- The issue of Nigerian students
cheated by local private universities and social problems frequently
caused by these students in Malaysia were among the topics discussed in a
meeting between Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang and
Nigerian High Commissioner to Malaysia, Bello Shehu Ringim, here
Thursday.
The hour-long meeting took place at Abu Zahar's office at Parliament building here.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Abu Zahar said he was told
that the Nigerian government viewed these issues seriously, including
the public's negative perception towards Nigerian students.
"Bello said their government was serious in trying to solve these
issues, and added that one of the factors for the social problems was
that some private universities failed to prepare a comprehensive study
timetable.
"This resulted in plenty of free time for the students, giving them room to engage in social ills," he said.
