The
Nigeria Army, 4th Brigade Command on Friday paraded 16 students
arrested for being in possession of Nigerian Army uniforms and
accoutrements.
Those arrested included four students from the Delta State University, Asaba campus and 12 students from the Delta State University, Ugwuashi-Uku Aniocha South Local Government Area of the state.
The students are - Okoh Stephen, Owugho Solomon, Isaac Ebikebunce, Edokpolor Hans, Peter Ughiovbe, Ekpeni Freedom, Obichie Anthony and Nomye Abel.
Akpotu James, Orji Chucks, Willie Ogheneovi, Samson Wisdom, Oshodin Gideon, Okoshi Ifeanyi and Eta Solomon were also arrested by the army.
Items recovered from them included 20 pairs of Army boots, 32 pairs of Army Green uniforms, five pairs of Army camouflage uniforms, nine pairs of Army peak caps, nine pairs of Army beret, three pairs of Army jungle hats, three pairs of general dut belts and one pair of Army camouflage T-shirt.
Others are 11 yards of Army green materials, one Nigerian Army flag, 10 Nigerian Army cadet recruitment forms, one Nigerian Army cadet certificate and photographs.
Commander of 4th Brigade, Brigadier-General Abel Umahi, who was represented by the Command Spokesperson, Roseline Managbe, said the illegal use of Nigerian Army uniforms and accoutrements was of serious security concerns.
He said the uniforms were given to the students by one police tailor and a mobile policeman who he said have been arrested.
"Experiences have shown that these illegal bodies have impersonated Nigerian Army personnel in various scenarios in acts of criminality to the utter embarrassment of the Force.
"The Nigerian Army which is widely respected worldwide cannot fold its arm and watch its name being drag into the mud by an organisation that is not registered or known to go about parading itself as an affiliate of the Nigerian Army.
"In view of this, the Nigerian Army wishes to disassociate itself from the activities of this organisation. There is only one Nigerian Army and no affiliates," the commander said.
